The ignition coil is the key to getting the ignition voltage on the cell that causes the ignition to start. It is the first and most important thing to know about the ignition coil as a primary/secondary circuit.

This is important because it tells us that the ignition coil is indeed a primary-secondary circuit. We’ll talk about secondary circuits in a bit, but the ignition coil is a primary-secondary circuit that allows the ignition to start in the first place. In general, primary-secondary circuits are always made of copper, whereas secondary circuits are made of borosilicate glass (the material that makes these glass bulbs glow).
