Some drivers are not really that aware of their speed when they are on the road. But if you’re a driver, I’d say that you’re at least about 90% aware you’re going faster than you should, and if you’re not, you’re probably driving too fast or too slow. The other 10% of that 10% is probably a matter of getting better at driving.
This is why you should always get a speedometer, and why the majority of people who get speedometers don’t really know what the numbers mean. The speedometer measures your speed in miles per hour, and is just one of the many things that determines how fast you can go. But there are also things that speedometers don’t tell you about speed. For example, the speedometer does not indicate the distance you have traveled since you started your journey.
For instance, the speedometer does not always indicate how far you’ve traveled. When you go to the gas station and are asked how much gas you have left, the information you get does not include the distance you’ve traveled. So when you say you’ve traveled 6 miles, the speedometer will be telling you that you have reached 6 miles, but the distance you’ve traveled has not yet been calculated.
If this is the case, then the speedometer should say 6 miles, not 6 miles.
This is why it’s a good idea to check the display on your speedometer, especially if you’ll be doing some long distance travel. Just because you’re in a hurry and you’re going a certain distance, it shouldn’t be a surprise that your speedometer is showing a different distance.
I understand your frustration, but there is a simple fix. The first thing you should do is remove the battery cover on your speedometer. This will allow you to see the distance youve traveled, even if your speedometer shows you only 6 miles.
On the bright side, at least youll know its 6 miles, and at worst youll be able to tell if your car is a lemon by the look of the battery cover.
If the problem continues, the second thing you should do is to remove the rubber gasket that seals the battery into the speedometer. This can be a pain, but it should stop the sensor from reading your speed wrong, even if only by a few thousandths of a mile.
The fact is that the only way to get a good speed sensor is to take your car to a repair shop and get them to replace it, which may not be possible because of how cheap and ubiquitous these units are.
For all of their faults, today’s cars are some of the most reliable and convenient cars there are. That’s because cars are not a single technology, but a bundle of many different technologies that are all combined and integrated into a single piece of hardware. The only thing keeping speed control from being more reliable is the sheer number of cars on the road.
