Where to Travel for Summer 2022

With international travel set to resume from May 17th; many countries are gearing up to welcome holidaymakers for the peak summer season. A traffic light system is expected to be unveiled on May 7th that will determine whether you would be required to quarantine on return. Here we list some popular holiday destinations that will be open to visitors this summer. We will be updating and adding more destinations to the list so check back here regularly. Europe

Greece

Greece has announced that it will be officially reopening it’s tourism market from May 14th 2021. Holidaymakers wanting to visit the country will have to provide either proof of full vaccination or a negative test upon arrival. There will also be random testing at the airport. Greece is pushing to vaccinate hospitality workers in an effort to mitigate the impact of its tourism restart. The country also aims to have vaccinated at least half of its population by the summer. Greece has so far managed to contain its infection rate relatively well compared to its neighbouring countries, and could be placed on either the green or amber.

Portugal

Portugal has recently indicated that it could welcome back tourists as early as May 17th, which is the earliest date that travel can resume according to the roadmap out of lockdown. The country has recently managed to bring its cases down to low numbers, making it a strong contender to be added to the green list of countries, which would mean you would not be required to quarantine or self-isolate on return. The country has said that it will accept people who have been vaccinated or can show proof of either immunity or a negative test. You must also fill out an online passenger locator form prior to arrival.

Spain

Spain is due to end its State of Alarm on 9th May 2021. The country has indicated it wants to welcome back tourists for the summer holiday season “as soon as possible”. It is still considering the requirements for entry although it is expected to be in-line with other popular tourist destinations, which require either proof of vaccination or a negative test. Turkey

Turkey is another popular holiday destination for Britons, with 2.5 million visitors choosing Turkey as a holiday destination in 2019. The country has recently announced that it will be welcoming back British tourists as soon as travel restrictions are eased. Turkey has suggested it could welcome back holidaymakers without proof of vaccination. The country has a’ Safe Tourism Certification Program’, which would allow tourists to get tested at their hotels prior to departure at a lower cost.

Croatia

To visit Croatia for holidays you will be required to provide evidence of either a negative PCR test taken 48-hours before departure, proof of vaccination or a certificate of recovery. Those visiting as tourists will also need to show proof of accommodation or property ownership. Visitors can fill out the online entry form prior to departure. You may also be required to show a return or onward ticket. Popular locations include Zagreb, the capital and largest city of Croatia steeped in history and boasting stunning architecture. Located off Croatia’s Adriatic coast, Korcula is a picturesque island popular with visitors.

Americas

Mexico

Mexico is currently open to tourists and you do not require a visa if you are visiting for a holiday. However you are required to complete an immigration form to be presented on arrival and departure. You can do this on arrival or in advance using the online form. You may also be asked to provide proof of accommodation and funds to cover the trip. Over 576,000 Britons visited Mexico in 2017 with popular destinations including Mexico City, Cancun, Cozumel, Nuevo Vallarta, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Tulum. British Airways offers flights to Mexico City and Holiday packages to Cancun.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is open for international tourism with a requirment to complete an online ‘Health Pass’ form prior to departure. You will also need to obtain medical insurance that includes covid cover and show proof of a return ticket or onward travel. Popular places to visit include Jaco Beach for unrivalled sport fishing. Coca Beach offers the best beaches and nightlife. For those looking for a laid back vibe for surfing and yoga, then Nosara Beach is a the place to be.  San Jose is the most visited place in Costa Rica and is great for shopping and local cuisine. Caribbean

Bahamas

The Bahamas is open for Holidays and you will need to provide a negative covid test certificate issued no less than 5 days prior to departure. You will also need to complete a Health Visa application before departure. The Bahamas offers an exquisite retreat with super resorts overlooking stunning pristine beaches with miles of soft white sands. Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is open to British holidaymakers who can provide proof of a negative PCR taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Around 190,000 Brits visited the country in 2018, which offers year-round sunshine, sandy white beaches and a popular diving spot in the azure waters.
